Money and Wealth
Money and wealth matters. As the saying goes.., "Money makes the world go round". Money pays our bills, provides for our basics, buys our cars and homes, pays for our kids' education, provides for our entertainment and travel, and so much more. Yet, millions of people struggle financially every day.
As we know, the middle class is shrinking and financial times are becoming more difficult for the majority. Over 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck with over 40% unable to pay for an emergency like car repairs or medical expenses. Student loans and debt are at an all time high. Credit card debt is increasing. And high paying jobs are harder to come by. Meanwhile, those who are in the upper bracket of money and wealth seem to be thriving. Why is this? Do they have better opportunities, education, or come from privileged families? Possibly. But opportunities can be created and financial education can be obtained. And we do not need to come from a privileged family to be financially successful.
There are two major components to money at play here. One is our psychology, or how we feel and think about money. And two, our knowledge or what we know about money and how it works.
The psychology of money is tied in emotionally. Today more than ever people are increasingly stressed over money causing anxiety, frustration, anger, and depression. And the other extreme is compulsive buying and spending when we have an excess amount of it. Emotion influences our behavior of money. Our beliefs are the other factor in the handling of money in our lives. What we believe about money will affect what we do with it.
The knowledge one has of money is strongly tied into their upbringing and past experiences. Very few receive an education in finance and investing. So most are left to fend for their finances and money on preconceived ideas that are probably closer to myth than fact. Understanding how to produce, protect and grow our wealth has been the skill of the elite for a very long time. However, financial information is no longer just available to the rich. Everyone now has access to the majority of information on money and its three stages; production, protection, and growth.
